Brown trout 15 Mar - 30 September
800m of single bank

Access: ****

Excellent brown trout fishing with a mixture of sweeping bends, large pools and faster, more challenging runs. There is a superb mayfly hatch in late May and early June and sea trout are present later in the season. The trout average six to eight inches, with plenty of larger fish to 14” present. An interesting note is that this, and the adjoining Milford beat, is mentioned in Mike Weaver’s book ‘The Pursuit of Wild Trout’ where the author landed 82 trout in five hours. The beat is best fished with 2-5wt, 7-8ft rods and waders are advised. Has a good head of brown trout up to 12”.

Fly only. All trout under 8” must be returned, no more than 2 trout to be retained per day. Please return all sea trout and salmon. Sorry, no dogs. Please note this is an Arundell Arms Hotel beat and there is no token box - please deposit tokens and catch returns at the Hotel Reception (8am - 9pm) which is in the nearby village of Lifton. NB. The ‘Cockpit’ is open for tackle sales and advice 9-10am & 6.30-7pm, day rods are also available on the Hotel’s water.
