West Dart (Dartmoor Fishery) 800m downstream of Weak Ford up to Hexworthy Bridge. Missed the fish below Weak Ford (three takes) and moved back via Huccaby stretch. Trees have been cleared which makes for easier access and casting, but removes some of the lies for fish. Two large Sea trout moved in the tail of one of these pools, much bigger than the peal seen earlier in the week.
13-06-2012
Cowsic (Dartmoor Fishery) Main rivers rising still, so fished the Cowsic. Moorland stretch was delightful, missed numerous smaller fish, caught a good number of fish in the 10 - 15 cm range. Very spooky fish, needed to crawl and side cast, with short casts essential to avoid spooking other fish. Excellent sport and beautiful quarry. Finished the afternoon fishing the pocket water between Beardown Farm and the moors. Hard going over the rocks but great sport and slightly larger fish. Three landed, best nudging 20cm.

West Dart (Dartmoor FIshery) River Swincombe confluence to Princes Hall Hotel. River clearer but rising, sustained heavy rain. Several fish of small size caught, generally when casting to sighted larger fish - many of which were seen. Particularly fertile stretch of river, uncharacteristically weedy with good fly life - nutrient runoff from the Dairy farm perhaps? Definately holds good numbers of larger fish along this stretch but much harder fishing today - combination of conditions, bad angling and spooky fish.

A superb day thank you from this very small deceptive river which showed no evidence of being fished lately, not a single footprint in the bank.
A few mayfly coming off but not many natural rises in spite of this, although fish came freely to what I offered.
My advice for anyone following this is to go alone, on an overcast day & fish as lightly as you dare !
